The new U.S champion on competition with Japan and keeping his hobby quiet
Thomas Snyder, a 27-year-old research associate in bioengineering at Stanford University won the first-ever National Sudoku Championship in Philadelphia two weeks ago. To beat out more than 850 other participants, he solved an advanced-level puzzle in 7 minutes, 9 seconds. The prize: $10,000 cash, and a spot on the U.S. team that will head to the third annual World Championship in Goa, India in April. Mr. Snyder, who won last year's world competition, is also working on a book of his own Sudoku puzzles, due out in April. Mr. Snyder spoke with the Wall Street Journal's Candace Jackson.For Details

Sudoku Goes Web 2.0
